Typical Volunteer Opportunities During the School Year
In our ongoing efforts to Boost the Mac Choir in all of their efforts, we have many opportunities for parents, guardians and students to volunteer throughout the year. Students often earn Letter Jacket points by volunteering; learn more about that here.
The opportunities presented below are for adult volunteers unless otherwise indicated.

Cabaret Needs - Chairs for the following positions (November/December)
Each of these areas will have multiple volunteers under them who sign up for particular shows/time slots and make everything work.

End-of-Year Banquet Needs
Choir Trip Needs (it has not yet been determined if there will be a 2023-2024 Choir Trip)
Choir trips have been discontinued since the beginning of the Covid pandemic, in the spring of 2020.
Uniform Return Needs (End of the Year)
The opportunities presented below are for adult volunteers unless otherwise indicated.
Uniform Fitting Needs (Beginning of the Year)
- 3-4 Fitting Volunteers to help students find a generally well-fitting uniform, and then issuing it to them using Charms (our Choir management system), and pinning/hemming uniforms for volunteers to sew later. This process usually takes place on weekdays, during the various choir classes, with students coming into an adjacent room in small groups.
- 5-7 Sewing Volunteers to pick up the pinned uniforms, take them home, and then sew and return them to school.
- Chaperones to sit with students at choir contest events, to help them stay on task, follow onsite rules, and sign students out as they depart the venue.
Goody Bags for TMEA Contest (usually In October)
- 2 Volunteers to purchase Goody Bag items and assemble Goodie Bags for student TMEA participants
Choir Event Needs
- Programs, Posters and T-Shirts - in collaboration with the Choir Director . . . design, order and distribute programs for events
- Set Decoration - assist Choir Director with usually minimal set needs for choir events
- Snack/Dinner - order, set-up, distribute and clean-up for student meals prior to late rehearsals and/or events
- Chaperones - sit with and/or cue students during choir events
- Reception - set-up for reception prior to the concert/show, and clean-up afterward
Cabaret Needs - Chairs for the following positions (November/December)
- Work Days: Students and parents/guardians/relatives/friends/anyone come together 3 to 4 Saturdays prior to the show to help build sets and sew costumes during Cabaret Work Days.
- Front of House * – usher, ticket sales, and will call
- Lobby sales * – concessions and flowers
- Back of House – dressing room monitor (male and female) and stagehand
- Costumes – costume construction
- Cabaret meals – set up/clean up
- Strike party – set up/clean up

- A Chairperson to plan and coordinate volunteers
- Many parent volunteers to bring food for the judges' breakfast, monitor rooms, and run music and judging sheets
- Student Volunteer Opportunities - runners, food serving, clean-up, etc.
End-of-Year Banquet Needs
- A Chairperson to plan it all who loves planning parties and spending other people's money on decorations and awesome party ideas
- Many parent volunteers will be needed to support the Banquet Chair plan, prepare, decorate, and clean-up after the banquet
- Student Volunteer Opportunities - set-up, decorations, clean-up, etc.
Choir Trip Needs (it has not yet been determined if there will be a 2023-2024 Choir Trip)
Choir trips have been discontinued since the beginning of the Covid pandemic, in the spring of 2020.
- A handful of parent chaperones are needed for the annual trip
Uniform Return Needs (End of the Year)
- 5 Volunteers to receive and check-in student uniforms, usually during lunch or after school, sometime after the last all-choir event (usually in mid-May)
- 2 Volunteers to facilitate the cleaning of all uniforms that need to be cleaned (usually only those of the Tenor/Bass Choir, since the typical Treble Choir uniforms can be washed on warm by students at home)
- 2-3 Volunteers to facilitate the cleaning of all uniforms after the last all-choir performance, and organize them in the Uniform Closet once they've been cleaned
